AUDACIOUS COMMON THREAD SOCIALS (ACTS) and CONSTANT FLUX is very very VERY proud to present… SUNDAY 6th APRIL @ BROOMHALL CENTRE, SHEFFIELD
An open, inclusive and integrated event featuring bands from the Learning Disabilities and Sheffield DIY music scenes.
THE FISH POLICE
Combining surreal pop imagery with glitched beats and a strong visual aesthetic creating their own unique blend of electronic left-field pop. They release their debut album ‘The Marzipan Transformations’ on 7th April 2014. The LP takes the audience on a journey through their own world, evoking everything from MF Doom to Kraftwerk.
Dean Rodney (singer, rapper, songwriter), Matthew Howe (guitar) and Charles Stuart (keys, co-songwriter and background vocals), first met in 2003 at a music session at arts organisation Heart n Soul in Deptford. They are unique not in only their integration of LD and non-LD members, with a live line-up featuring players from Grace Jones and Mark Ronson’s bands, but also in the music they make and the wider artistic projects they are involved in. Such as the large-scale international project The Dean Rodney Singers, which included an installation at the Royal Festival Hall and performing at the Paralympic 2012 opening ceremony.
THE STARS BAND
The flagship band of Sheffield’s learning disability friendly nightclub Under The Stars, which has been a vital social enterprise in the city since 2007. When not partying hard and dancing the night away, they hold music workshops for people with learning disabilities, making recordings and playing live at the nightclubs. The band we will hear on the night is the a direct product of this amazing organisation and it’s members.
MANGO RESCUE TEAM
Outrageously tropical super group, formed from the same coconuts that sprouted into previous Sheffield bands Flamingo Love Parade and The Mother Folkers. Expect cool, flavourful and fizzy rhythms with a dash of reggae reggae sauce.
L’AMOUR DES REVES
Sheffield twosome bashing out Mersey Beat vibes with a slickback Garage pop edge. Guaranteed to get the dancefloor moving early.
Sunday 6th April,
Doors open 6:30pm. Bands start 7pm.
£3 entry. Carers free/donation
Flat access, food, non alcoholic refreshments and a safe, euphoric atmosphere guaranteed. Please feel free to bring your own alcoholic drinks, thought these must only be consumed inside the hall.
