A new configuration of the Sun Araw Band, the live-action collaborative branch of Sun Araw. Over the course of several studio dates in Hollywood, California, “Trio” players Cameron Stallones, Alex Gray, and Mitchell Brown (with no prior intentions of doing any such thing) successfully planted a garden of “non-dimensional” objects, not only spontaneously generating these objects but also mastering their nurture and cultivation. And You Can Too!
Their latest incarnation, ‘Gazebo Effect’ is a nocturnal stroll into the depths of the garden, its upper lawns and outbuildings. The listener is advised that as these objects have been “set growing,” their location at any given time is difficult to predict. The Garden cannot be exited by the path it is entered, the angles involved being extremely precise. These factors (and others) clearly illustrate the value for oneself (and others) in the building of an observational structure: The Gazebo. However, it must be understood that the presence of this structure has a transformative effect on The Garden Itself.
In other words, the “Gazebo Effect” is a music production system that allows a performance to be obstructed & (thus) interpreted while it is being played. What a Savings!
S. Araw “Trio” XI is

A. Gray – Computer Synthesis, Bamboo Saxophone
M. Brown – 1/4″ Magnetic Tape, Yamaha CP35, Roland System 100 Synthesizer
— THE ALTERED HOURS —
The Altered Hours exist in a swirl of the psychedelic and hypnotic. A five piece from the south of Ireland, their live shows are known for their intensity and for the band’s ability to envelope both themselves and the crowd in their sound. Vocalists Cathal MacGabhann and Elaine Howley are at once fearless and paranoid; exuding a self-confidence that is catching while yelping, snarling and harmonising on themes of “loneliness, cannabis and sex positions”.
Having recorded their first EP ‘Downstream’ at their own Cracks in the Light studio, the band were invited to record their second EP ‘Sweet Jelly Roll’ with Fabien Leseure in Berlin, released on A recordings in 2013. The group released a 7” – ‘Dig Early’ – on Cork label Art For Blind in April of 2014 and are set to release their highly anticipated first album in 2015.
— SAIF MODE —
Divine electricity. Only love beauty. Devotional synthesiser improvisations from pagan spirit worshipper, and divine procurer of mystic sounds, Saif Mode.
His debut tape on our very own label is an unabashed and playful exploration of religious themes set to a soundtrack of ’70s synthesizers, while, as a live manifestation, a free-wielding drummer joins to create an unlikely marriage of meditative drones and unwieldy techno improvisations.
A healthy scepticism for laptops and samples reflects a music which is burrowing too far into the ether to be concerned with sounds-of-the-week and insubstantial VSTs. Come worship at the alter of the Saif-Style.
— ANCIENT SUNLIGHT —
Heavy pastoral analogue folk rituals using guitar, organ, drum machines and samples. Think The Durutti Column meets JJ Cale on a heavy dose of ‘ludes. Debut of a new outfit by Rob ‘E’ Lee.
