Designing Out Suicide is a new collaborative project to raise awareness of suicide in women. The final goal of the project is to create a collaborative zine that raises awareness of women suffering with suicidal thoughts/ideations or mental health problems which could lead to suicide. They’re currently holding an open call-out for submissions to the zine and anyone is encouraged to submit: men and women, anonymous entries, photos, drawings, non-fiction pieces, stories… You name it!
The deadline for submissions to the zine is the 27th of April.
See more details about the project and submission process HERE
As well as submissions for the zine, there is also a planned series of workshops that are open to anyone and will continue to run throughout and after the submission process. The workshops are to facilitate a peer support and discussion ethic, whilst implementing alternate methods of expression. The events will hopefully open up opportunities for collaboration and work towards methods of therapy in creativity and group discussion.
The nature of the first workshop on Saturday 4th April, is to get together in our peer support discussion group whilst cutting and sticking. There’ll also be a couple of drawing exercises and plenty of stuff to do whilst we all discuss and share elements of mental health. The creative side to these days is optional, no prior knowledge or skill of collage is needed and you’re welcome to bring along whatever you want to. If there are some things you’d like to cut and stick you’re welcome to do so, otherwise all materials will be provided!
Link to the workshop is HERE
There’s a suggested donation of £2 per person for the hire of the space and for the materials but you needn’t worry about this if you can’t afford it – just come along and there’s no pressure to pay if you can’t or don’t want to.
