Our good friends from Za! have finally ended a very long wait and released their new album ‘Megaflow’. Hailing from Barcelona, we put Za! on in Sheffield just a year or so ago on their last tour and they blew us away, with their blend of fuzzy guitar, manic rumba beats and general tropical worldliness. Bands that play loud chaotic music like this often get thrown in the same melting pot as Lightning Bolt, Don Caballero, Battles etc. Although the album was mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless Mastering, the guy responsible for the such bands previous work, we feel Za! are cooking from a different recipe altogether.
The album swings around from tree to tree, changing beats and instruments mid song without any real regard as to where you hoped it was going. Za! make their own rules. The use of percussion, trumpet and looped vocals and samples swirls around you, making you feel rather confused but sure of one thing. That after one listen you are now dying to see this band very soon and throw yourself into some weird kind of exorcising dance and be washed away in their sweet future megaflow.
