After their hometown was named the ‘worst place to live in the UK’ in London’s Shortlist Magazine, Grimsby-born post-rock band Elk chose to document the town and it’s neighbouring resort, Cleethorpes, in the video for the latest single to be taken from their debut album, Herd Songs. Following guitarist Thomas Conolly from dawn to dusk, the video invites the viewer to reflect on the surprising contradiction of beauty in ruin.
The band recorded the video in a single day at various locations around their hometowns of Grimsby and Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire. Using nothing more than a single SLR camera and an old Vauxhall Astra, the band chose to simply “film what was there” and let the viewer decide if they see something beautiful or bleak.
Three Ships is available to download and to hold, as part of the Herd Songs LP which we released in early May.
